The Titan Missile Museum

The Titan Missile Museum is also known as Air Force Facility Missile Site 8, as it is the location of an InterContinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) that is now intert and is open for the public to view. There were many of these missiles produced, but this is the only one left in Arizona and is run by the Arizona Aerospace Foundation.

As well as the missile itself, the site also contains underground control rooms and living quarters. The control room has three floors but the missile silo has eight floors which contains the missile itself and its equipment. The underground facilities are built from reinforced steel which in some places is as thick as 8 feet, and 3-ton doors seal the silo from the living and computing quarters. Tourists are allowed to visit level 8 of the silo, which allows you to stand directly underneath the missile, at a depth of 140 feet underground.

The missile was deactivated in 1982, as plans for newer and more effective ballistic missiles were underway. This means that the Titan II missile was never fuelled and no longer has a warhead, making it completely inert and safe for the public to view.

A visitor guide for this museum will be available to download soon!
